Montgomery County will honor Sharon Cullen, a dedicated longtime public servant who died in July, on Friday, the day that would have marked her 60th birthday, writes Jim Melwert for KYW Newsradio.
Cullen, who spent decades working at the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office and the commissioner’s office, will be recognized based on a resolution in the Pennsylvania House submitted by Montgomery County state Rep. Greg Scott.
She will be honored not only for her government work but also for co-founding the Montgomery County Hero Fund, which supports families of first responders following tragic events.
“If you were a first responder in Montgomery County, you had a sense of peace knowing that Sharon Cullen was there in the event that something happened to you,” said Scott.
The Hero Fund began 13 years ago, according to Cullen’s husband, Sean, after a benefit for the widow of Plymouth Township Police Officer Brad Fox, who was pregnant when he died in the line of duty. The event then grew larger from there.
“And that’s what Sharon was most involved with,” he said.
After a battle with cancer, Cullen died on July 29.
