Syracuse University’s football team has obtained Wyncote native Lonnie Rice in an early signing-day acquisition of the linebacker. Emily Leiker reported the school’s new asset for syracuse.com.

Rice — a six-foot, 220-pound junior college prospect — graduated from the now-closed Bishop McDevitt High School in 2020.

He originally enrolled at the University of Buffalo but transferred to Lackawanna Community College, where he played for the Falcons.

While at the community college, Rice battled through ten games, amassed 39 total tackles, sacked a QB 4.5 times, forced one fumble, recovered two fumbles forced by teammates, and broke up two passes.

He signed with the Orange on Dec. 12.

He is the third junior-college player (and the second linebacker) that Syracuse University added to its 2023 recruiting class.
