The first Georgia location of a Wawa convenience store should open by 2024 as the chain continues to expand, writes Beth McKibben for atlanta.eater.com.

The popular convenience store chain has been finding success with new locations in Florida, so the company announced Oct. 5 that nearby Georgia is its next Southeastern target.

It will be a happy reunion for northeasterners now living in Georgia and Atlanta who miss their Wawa hoagies, Sizzlis breakfast sandwiches, and Wawa coffee.

“Expanding to Georgia is a natural extension from the Florida panhandle, and we look forward to serving more communities along the East Coast,” John Poplawski, vice president of real estate for Wawa, said in a prepared statement.

Specific locations weren’t released other than they would be in the “southern and coastal” areas of the state.  As many as 20 new stores could open over the coming years.

As usual, Wawa is giving people an opportunity to fill out a form suggesting where their stores should open.

Wawa will face competition from the roadside chains QuikTrip and Buc-ee’s.

Wawa has been expanding in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida, and Washington, D.C., and plans stores in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama.
