Hatboro Family — Having Lost a Dear One of Its Own — Goes to Bat for Others

By

The loss of Parker Hall’s wife Kat to colon cancer in 2014 was devastating to him and his children. But he somehow knew he would find a way to repay the kindnesses his Hatboro neighbors showed him during the ordeal. Eight years later, the Halls’ annual wiffle ball classic is raising funds and spirits for other cancer-stricken families. Matteo Iadonisi stepped up to the plate to bring the story to 6abc.

“The community really rallied around my family,” remembered Hall, describing the support he and his family got during Kat’s illness. “Be it with bringing dinner over, support financially, and also just being there for my daughters and [me].”

When she eventually passed, a friend told Hall, “You’re going to find something that’s going to fill some sort of void.”

He and his children then brainstormed fundraising ideas. They chose an annual wiffle ball tournament, based on the relative ease the game could be learned and played.

Six years later, the Halls have held a half dozen annual events at the Hatboro Little League fields, raising $85,000 that was donated to six local families.

The 2022 recipient was the family of a 14-year-old Hatboro girl diagnosed since birth with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia. Bringing the good deed full circle, the recipient’s family is a past sponsor of the Wiffle Ball Classic.
