Montgomery County is on the cusp of another heat advisory.

Tomorrow’s one-two punch of high humidity and excessive heat will bring on a real-feel temperature of 102⁰. That’s dangerous territory for Montgomery County residents who are very young, advanced in age, or medically compromised; however, Montgomery County service providers are firing up its heat advisory response. Emily Rizzo was appropriately cool-headed in bringing details to WHYY.

Recommended tactics for navigating this scorcher are well-known but worth repeating:

  • Limit outdoor time, staying in air-conditioned rooms if possible
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Check neighbors and family members
  • Monitor pets carefully
  • Seek medical attention for heat-related symptoms (muscle cramps, headache, nausea, etc.)

Homes without air conditioning are of special concern. Occupants should block sunlight as best possible and avoid use of fans, whose their mere recycling of hot air is dangerously ineffective.

Residents seeking relief can visit one of Montgomery County’s regional “cooling centers.” They include:

  • Encore Experiences, 312 Alumni Ave., Harleysville
  • Generations of Indian Valley, 259 N. 2nd St., Souderton
  • The Peak Center, 606 E. Main St., Lansdale
  • Positive Aging, 117 Ardmore Ave., Ardmore
  • Montco Senior Adult Activity Center, 45 Forest Ave., Ambler
  • The Open Link, 517 Jefferson St., East Greenville
  • TriCounty Active Adult Center, 288 Moser Rd., Pottstown
  • KleinLife, 7763 Old York Rd., Elkins Park
  • Libraries in towns including Jenkintown, Narberth, East Cheltenham, and Horsham

A more complete list is online.

If there are upsides to this next summer sizzle, they are these: This latest onset is, according to the National Weather Service, expected only to last a day.

And the first day of autumn is less than 50 days hence.
