Skippack's Blossom Cafe — easy to miss because it's nested within Floral & Hardy — makes a refreshing stop during a shopping trip.

Nested among its stocked flowers, plants, and horticultural supplies, Floral & Hardy in Skippack has a wonderful, restorative spot for gardeners. It’s a quaint eatery, The Blossom Cafe, which is small in stature but big on flavor. Only in Your State, a national resource, found this little-known Montgomery County gem.

The store’s strong suit is its garden center. The merchandise with which it is stocked appeals to both the dedicated horticulturalist and the casual planter who gets easily bushed caring for bushes.

The live, plantable-at-home inventory includes shrubs, perennials, annuals, herbs, and veggies. Its shelves also contain plant care items that its staff is well-versed in recommending. Last, there is the yard décor, which runs from the practical (container pots) to the whimsical (colorful ceramic toadstools; a frog fountain that perpetually spits water).

The Blossom Cafe, however, is all about fueling up for the yard work at home.

The menu has coffees of various flavors, brew styles, and temperatures (hot to iced). A farm-fresh quiche or chicken salad sandwich on multigrain toast make satisfying entrees. And even the sweets are garden themed; a muffin comes in a terracotta flowerpot.

And this is no grab-and-go style food stop. The seating area is bright and lush with greenery, where patrons can sit and chat, mustering the energy for the garden work waiting at home.
