North Wales-based Hemlock + Hyde, launched by Nick and Leanne Polidore five years ago, is continuing to double in size every year with no slowdown in sight, writes Lisa Dukart for The Business Journals.

The leather handbag-focused brand came to be when the husband-and-wife team were offered some salvaged vintage hides by a friend. Despite never having worked with leather before, the University of the Arts graduates decided to accept them.

Leanne first began making some catch-all bowls from the material. Then Nick started making wallets, and the pair began wondering if their leatherworking could be turned into a business.

They launched with a single bag and have since expanded into offering dozen different styles. They have recently added hats and are planning to add further offerings down the line. They also offer a look behind the scenes at their creation process to their many social media followers.

Most of their business comes from direct-to-consumer sales, but in the future, they hope to open a storefront.

“I love the idea of us having a brick and mortar where we can also have monthly lessons in the back,” Leanne said.
