New White House Cat Named After First Lady’s Hometown of Willow Grove

White House cat Willow checks out the view.

There is a new occupant in the White House, a 2-year-old tabby cat adopted by the Biden family and named Willow, after first lady Jill Biden’s hometown of Willow Grove, writes Pat Ralph for the Philly Voice.

The gray-and-white cat is the same one that jumped onto the stage during a campaign visit to Western Pennsylvania during the 2020 presidential election.

The green-eyed feline interrupted the first lady’s speech and left a lasting impression on the family.

Meanwhile, the White House German Shepard Major returned recently to Washinton, D.C., after he went through additional training following several biting incidents, and now has a new family he resides with.

Willow joins Commander, the Bidens’ German shepherd, as a White House pet of the first family. Commander was adopted last month after the family dog, Champ, passed away.

Both president Joe Biden and the first lady have expressed their desire to adopt a cat once they moved into the White House.

The arrival of the latest addition to the family was delayed until now to give Commander a chance to acclimate before introducing the cat.

Willow is the first White House cat since former President George W. Bush’s cat India in 2009.
