What’s Your Favorite Hometown Grocery Store? See PA’s Popular Grocery Ranking

A state-by-state analysis of popular grocery store chains yields a surprising preference for Pa.

Malvern-based Acme Markets took the top spot as the most popular grocery store chain in two states. Just not our state. A new report by 24/7 Wall St. explains.

To compile its state-by-state list of most popular grocery store chains, 24/7 Wall St. used data from Yelp to find the highest number of favorable reviews. It then used Google Trends to determine which also had the highest search volume in the past 12 months.

According to the findings, Delaware and New Jersey residents prefer to buy groceries at Acme Markets.

The Acme Markets chain has 162 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, New York, and Connecticut. It has been a subsidiary of Albertsons for the past 22 years and was the biggest grocery store in the Delaware Valley until 2011.

Despite closing a number of locations in New York and New Jersey recently, Acme has expanded its footprint by buying dozens of former A&P sites.

Meanwhile, the most popular supermarket chain in Pennsylvania is ALDl.
