Montgomery County’s Norristown Farm Park has announced upcoming educational and family-friendly events scheduled for February.

Morning Bird Walk

Tuesday, February 8, 9 a.m.

Get outdoors and join park staff for our regular Tuesday bird walk. Bring binoculars or borrow ours! Wear sturdy shoes for hiking.

All ages; Free

Nature Explorers – Tracks and Scat

Thursday, February 10, 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Search for clues of the animals that call the Farm Park home. Learn how to identify different species’ tracks and scat. Then, take a hike and use your new skills. We will be both inside and outside, if weather is very cold.

Children ages 3-6 with adult; $3 fee

Valentine’s Alcohol Inks

Saturday, February 12, 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

*Limited Spaces Available*

Join artist Lori Crook, from the Greater Norristown Art League, for a creative session learning about and experimenting with alcohol inks!

This is an exciting, vibrant and fluid medium that allows anyone to be an artist. Your instructor will provide an overview of how to use alcohol inks, some demonstrations, lots of hands-on help if needed and will have much of her work on display for inspiration. Each participant will be able to work on yupo paper and will be given a small vase to “ink.”

Ages 14 and up; $35 per person

Full Moon Hike & Campfire

Wednesday, February 16, 5:45 p.m.

Come experience a hike under the almost full moon. Hopefully, you will see some nocturnal animals and experience the starry sky. After the hike, enjoy a campfire and roast some smores- bring your own supplies! Lawn chairs are recommended. Wear sturdy shoes for hiking.

Homeschool – Wilderness Survival

Wednesday, February 23, 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Come learn tactics that can be used to survive in the wilderness! Discover how to build a fire and create a shelter. We will also use some of our tracking skills learned from the last program. Please dress for the weather as we will be outdoors. Also if you would like to bring smores supplies, you will have the opportunity to cook them at the end of the program!

Hot Cocoa Evening Hike

Friday, February 25, 6:30 p.m.

Join us for an evening hike in the park. Discover facts about nocturnal animals and hopefully spot some! Enjoy looking up to the stars with a cup of hot chocolate to keep you warm.

Bird Nesting Boxes

Saturday, February 26, 11 a.m.

Spring is coming and the birds are returning from their wintering ground. Once they have returned, they will begin to search for nesting locations. Join us to learn why our bird boxes are important. Discover how volunteer monitors care for the boxes and submit information for tracking. Explore how you can help and participate in projects like this. This will be in an indoor space to use a PowerPoint presentation.

Ages 12 – Adult; Free

All programs have limited capacity, and registration is required. For meeting location and registration email Rebecca at rblacketter@montcopa.org. Programs may be canceled at any time. You will be notified if you registered. All programs are outdoors, unless otherwise listed, dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

About Norristown Farm Park

Norristown Farm Park is a working farm in continuous use since colonial times. This 690-acre park is home to a wide range of plant and animal species. Within this bucolic setting, you will find hiking trails, a cooperative trout nursery, picnic areas, forests, flood plains, fallow and working farm fields, wetlands and two stocked trout streams along with a number of historic structures the oldest of which, dates back to 1764. The park is open daily from 6 a.m. to sunset.
