Death did not prevent beloved actress Betty White from continuing to make the world a better place, as can be attested to by one local animal shelter, writes Rodrigo Torrejón for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

White had a lifelong love of animals and was an ardent advocate for their humane treatment.

This prompted her fans to start the Betty White Challenge after the actress died a few weeks shy of her 100th birthday.

The goal was to donate at least $5 to a local animal shelter in her name on January 17, her birthday.

Fans around the country and the world responded as animal shelters all around the globe were flooded with donations.

Home at Last Dog Rescue in North Wales saw its Venmo page explode as donations continued to pour in in White’s name.

“For Betty White’s Birthday,” read one donation. “Thank you for all that you do!”

The Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals also received a huge windfall from the challenge, with their received donations topping $50,000 by Monday.
