Mehmet Oz, Montgomery County Pennsylvania Senate candidate better known as television personality Dr. Oz, does not want to be referred to by his real first and last name during the campaign, writes Summer Concepcion for the Talking Points Memo.

Oz, who is running with a Bryn Athyn address, went on Fox News on Monday to complain about The Philadelphia Inquirer’s decision to refer to him as Mehmet Oz in their stories, claiming he is being “silenced.”

The move comes after The Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Jeffrey Barg pointed out that the decision was made by the paper’s style committee earlier in the month.

In the column, Barg argued that by referring to the celebrity doctor as “Dr. Oz” presents ethical issues as it “bestows status, authority, and honor.” This would give Oz an edge in a competitive race.

Barg also emphasized that Oz, a cardiothoracic surgeon and author, is not the only doctor running. Montgomery County Board of Commissioners Chair Val Arkoosh is also a physician, but the paper refers to her by her first and last name in headlines.
