King of Prussia Mall might soon get pushed down one spot among the largest malls in the country as Aventura Mall readies to take over second place, writes Allie Conti for the Miami New Times.

Aventura Mall is currently the biggest one is in Florida, but its owner, billionaire Jeffrey Soffer, wants to add a new, three-story retail wing to it.

This would also make it the second biggest mall in the country, a title currently held by King of Prussia Mall, which recently added the 55,000-square-foot connector to the mall with new stores and restaurants.

The real estate mogul is currently waiting for official approvals for his plans, which are currently being reviewed by Aventura city officials to make sure they meet zoning requirements.

Aventure Mall currently has 2.7 million square feet, while King of Prussia Mall is the largest shopping mall on the East Coast at 2.9 million square feet.

The Mall of America, located in Bloomington, Minnesota, currently holds the Number One largest mall in the United States spot.

Aventura Mall was built by four partners at the Oxford Development Company in Philadelphia in 1983. Its current owner is one of its heirs.
