The analysis looked at hospital data for 2019 that only relates to uncomplicated pregnancies, not high-risk pregnancies. The evaluation was based on five factors: scheduled early deliveries, C-section rates in low-risk women, newborn complications, rate of exclusive breast milk feeding, and option for vaginal births after cesarean.

Abington Hospital, which is part of Jefferson Health, has made the U.S. News & World Report’s inaugural list of the 237 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

“All families deserve to be informed on how hospitals perform on key indicators of quality,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News & World Report.

Abington Hospital was rated as High Performing in Maternity Care.

According to the report, the hospital never or rarely schedules delivery earlier than recommended, is excellent at minimizing avoidable C-sections, and has a slightly lower than average percentage of newborn complications.

Additionally, 51.1 percent of babies were exclusively breastfed or fed breast milk during their hospital stay. Abington Hospital in Montgomery County also routinely offers to support vaginal births following a cesarean.
