October 5th COVID-19 Update: Over 450 New Cases Reported in Montgomery County Over the Last Few Days

Montgomery County reported 451 new positive cases of COVID-19 in the last 2 days (October 2-4, 2021) bringing the total number of confirmed positive COVID-19 cases to 67,598 countywide since March 7, 2020.

There are currently 107 people hospitalized in Montgomery County hospitals due to severe COVID-19 symptoms. Of those COVID-19 patients, 17 people are on ventilators.

There were 4 new COVID-19 deaths reported in Montgomery County during October 2-4, 2021.

The current total deaths are numbered at 1,366 in Montgomery County, since March 7, 2020.

In Montgomery County, 61,490 people have been partially vaccinated, and 450,959 have been fully vaccinated. 13,224 have received a booster dose.

In Pennsylvania, approximately 12,872,728 total vaccines have been administered.

Pennsylvania COVID-19 Update of New Positive Cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 14,076 new positive cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the statewide total to 1,449,368 cases.

There are 2,776 people currently hospitalized due to severe COVID-19 symptoms, with 672 of those people in intensive care.

As of Monday, September 27, 2021, there were 95 new COVID-19 deaths reported across the state, bringing the State’s total death registry to 29,531.

Vaccine highlights

Federal data representing all 67 counties:

  • According to the CDC, as of Sunday, Oct. 3, Pennsylvania ranks 5th among all 50 states for total doses administered.
  • According to the CDC, as of Sunday, Oct. 3, 69.1% of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

Statewide data representing the 66 counties within the Department of Health’s vaccine jurisdiction:

  • Pennsylvania’s vaccine dashboard was updated on Friday, July 9 to more accurately reflect the number of people who are partially and fully vaccinated in each county outside of Philadelphia, along with demographics of those receiving vaccine.
  • For state-to-state comparisons, refer to the CDC vaccine data tracker.
  • Vaccine providers have administered 12,872,728 total vaccine doses, including 172,363 additional doses (which includes additional shots for immunocompromised individuals and booster shots), as of Monday, Oct. 4.
  • 6,231,260 people are fully vaccinated; with 98,487 vaccinations administered since yesterday and a seven-day moving average of more than 23,200 people per day receiving vaccinations.

The department continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance for wearing a mask where required by law, rules, and regulations, including healthcare, local business, and workplace guidance.

For the protection of themselves and others, individuals who have not yet been vaccinated or are partially vaccinated are still encouraged to wear a mask when in public.

CDC also recommends all individuals wear a mask indoors in public if they are in an area of substantial or high transmission.

There are 227,557 individuals who have a positive viral antigen test and are considered probable cases. 

There are 5,500,616 individuals who have tested negative to date.

  • In licensed nursing and personal care homes, there have been a total of 76,780 resident cases of COVID-19 to date, and 16,359 cases among employees, for a total of 93,139 at 1,628 distinct facilities in all 67 counties.
  • Out of total deaths reported to PA-NEDSS, 14,144 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

  • Note that the number of deaths reported to NEDSS is not exactly the same as the COVID-19 related deaths reported by the death registry.
  • The number of deaths among nursing and personal care home residents and employees is taken from the PA-NEDSS death data, as this information is not available in the death registry data.

Approximately 31,186 of the total cases have been among health care workers.

The department continues to urge Pennsylvanians to follow CDC guidance to wearing a mask where required by law, rules, and regulations, including healthcare, local business, and workplace guidance.

  • Wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
  • Cover any coughs or sneezes with your elbow, not your hands.
  • Clean surfaces frequently.
  • Stay home to avoid spreading COVID-19, especially if you are unwell.
  • If you must go out, please wear a mask when in a business or where it is difficult to maintain proper social distancing.
