To determine the ranking, Niche compared counties in the Keystone States using several relevant metrics, such as home values, property taxes, homeownership rates, housing costs, and real estate trends.

Montgomery County is one of the top ten places to buy a house in Pennsylvania, according to a recently released list by Niche.

Montgomery County came eighth with an A+ overall Niche grade. This makes it the highest-ranked county in the Philadelphia region.

With a population of 823,823, Montco has a median home value of $316,100. This is significantly above the national average of $217,500.

Meanwhile, approximately 72 percent of residents own their homes.

And, according to Niche’s ranking based on key statistics from the U.S. Census and expert insights, Montgomery County is also ranked:

  • Best Counties for Families in Pennsylvania: 1 out of 65;
  • Best Counties to Live in Pennsylvania: 1 out of 65;
  • Best Counties for Retirees in Pennsylvania: 2 out of 65

Nationally, Montgomery County ranks 20th in the nation (of 2,767 counties) for the Best County for Families.

The county also has low crime rates, significantly under the national average.
