The Main Line Chamber Foundation, which provides scholarships to volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians from throughout the region, will hold the 24th Annual GIANT Main Line Run/Walk on Sunday, Sept. 12.

“This year’s 5K run and 1.5-mile walk will honor the memories of Sean DeMuynck and Thomas Royds, two volunteer firefighters who tragically lost their lives in the line of duty in July,” said Maureen McAleer, Chairwoman of The Main Line Chamber Foundation.

The event is the primary fundraiser for The Main Line Chamber Foundation’s Emergency Responders Scholarship Program. Due to the participation at the Main Line Run/Walk, along with private donations, the foundation has awarded $500,000 in scholarships to local volunteer firefighters and emergency medical technicians.

“The GIANT Company is grateful for the everyday heroic actions of all first responders in our communities,” said Jessica Groves, community impact manager for The GIANT Company. “The Main Line Chamber Foundation Emergency Responders Scholarship program provides opportunities for those looking to continue their public service and we are proud to be able to provide support. When our communities are safe, our families are safe.”

The Sunday morning race awards team trophies, special medals for age group winners, and cash prizes for the fastest three male and female finishers. Companies from throughout the region sponsor the event and often participate as part of their wellness programs. An Expo will be held on the site of the run at The Main Line Chamber of Commerce offices at 175 Strafford Avenue in Wayne.

“We look forward to bringing the region’s firefighter community together in celebration of the work these heroes do,”  said Eric McCracken, Chairman of The Main Line Run Committee.

For the third year in a row, the GIANT Main Line Run/Walk is an officially sanctioned event by the U.S. Track and Field Association, which brings competitive runners, as well as walkers, recreational runners, and even some parents with strollers.
