Radial, the King of Prussia e-commerce logistics specialist, is already preparing for a possibly tumultuous holiday shipping season filled with uncertainties fueled by the rapid spread of the Delta variant, writes Jennifer Smith for The Wall Street Journal.

“There’s just a lot of uncertainty right now,” said Radial Chief Operating Officer Laura Ritchey. “We definitely believe that the volume will be bigger than last year, approximately 15% or so is what we’re planning for.”

Radial fills online orders throughout North America from its network of 25 distribution centers.

The company is already pushing forward its seasonal preparations, allocating warehousing space and staff significantly ahead of Christmas and the end-of-year surge in sales.

In a typical year, Radial usually checks in with its retail customers once a month to determine what they expect their demand will look like during the height of the holiday shopping season.

This year, however, Radial is “checking in every week, and for particular clients that might have more volatility, it could be twice a week,” said Ritchey.

The company is also expecting to see the near-daily demand checks that usually occur in late October and November to begin much sooner.
