Dave, the FXX show created by Cheltenham’s Dave Burd, where he fictionalizes his rise in hip-hop as Lil Dicky, became a true pandemic-era hit thanks to the unexpected combination of its crude humor, poignant moments on mental health, acceptance, and Burd’s privilege within a Black art form, writes Timothy Bella for The Washington Post.

Now, the comedian and musician is ready to prove that the success of the first season, which became FX Network’s most-watched comedy series ever, was not a fluke.

However, ahead of the second season, Burd admits that it is sometimes hard to separate Dave Burd from Lil Dicky in a show where the names and careers are the same.

“The art itself is totally wrapped up in my identity, which is what this show is, it’s literally about my life,” he said.

The second season, which will premiere July 16 on FXX, will follow Burd and his friends as his character continues to follow a path to possible stardom – or at least acceptance – in his own usually self-absorbed way.
