Highland Orchards Enjoys Fruitful Year for Strawberries; They ‘Practically Jump into Your Pocket’

By

West Chester’s Highland Orchards has enjoyed a fruitful year for strawberries, as more than enough have been available for both sale and the making of its popular strawberry rhubarb pie, reports Khiree Stewart for PHL17.

“This is probably the best crop we’ve had in the last 10 years,” said farm manager Jeremy Zeager. “The fields are absolutely loaded – the strawberries practically jump into your pocket when you come out here. It is jam-packed with strawberries right now.”

Highland has pick-your-own options available seven days a week, depending on the weather. Everybody gets a quart to fill and can buy more if interested.

There is truly an abundance of berries available in all sizes: larger ones for snacking on and smaller ones that can be used for delicious jams and pies.

In addition to strawberries, cherry-picking season is now upon us.

“We just started picking the other day, so there’s still plenty on the trees,” said Zeager, “but come out quick because they won’t last long.”

More on Highland Orchards is at PHL17.
