Wynnewood-based Kaiserman JCC has found its new CEO in Alan Scher, a veteran JCC executive, writes Andy Gotlieb for the Jewish Exponent.

Scher is currently serving as an associate executive director at the 14th Street Y in New York City. He has pledged to listen well in his new position and build relationships as the center considers its post-pandemic future.

“I’m a JCC guy,” he said. “I’ve had the honor and privilege to work at five different JCCs.”

Scher will replace Amy Krulik, who left the center in March to become executive director of Main Line Reform Temple. Jay Steinberg will continue to serve as the interim CEO until July 1, when Scher will take over in Wynnewood.

The new CEO is entering a difficult situation as JCC celebrates its semicentennial. The center saw a steep drop in membership following the 2013 pool roof collapse. No new indoor pool was available until 2019.

Board President Cindy Smukler believes Alan Scher is the right person to take on the challenge.

“From the get-go, I felt his love for the JCC,” she said. “The JCC is in his blood.”
