See Where Montco’s Mosquitos Rank in Our Area

If you were planning on spending a lot of time outside this summer, better stock up on mosquito repellants since Philadelphia has once again found its place on Orkin’s Top 50 Mosquito Cities List, according to a staff report from CBS3 Philly.

The City of Brotherly love ranked 12th on the national pest control leader’s list for 2021. The list is compiled based on the number of mosquito customers the company served between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021.

However things seem to be improving slightly as Philadelphia is three spots lower on the list than last year.

The top city for mosquitos is Los Angeles, which has dethroned seven-year “winner” Atlanta.

According to Orkin, mosquitoes become active when temperatures climb above 68 degrees overnight. And they are most likely to snack on you or your pets between dusk and dawn.

“Like many insects, mosquitoes need a food source, favorable temperatures, and a proper breeding site to survive,” said Frank Meek, Technical Services Manager at Rollins. “They are attracted to areas where humans and other animals are present, due to our body heat and the carbon dioxide we exhale, two of their needs.”
