‘Crush the Commonwealth’ Takes Bikers on Ride From Pittsburgh through Montco with No Prizes, Few Rules
The Crush the Commonwealth ride gets bikers to jump on their bicycles and pedal their way from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia – passing through Montgomery County on the way – with no prizes as incentives and very few rules, writes Buffy Gorrilla for the WHYY.
The event prides itself on having “No” as its keyword.
“No registration. No entry fee. No prizes. No support,” states the site. Basically, just gather at 5 a.m. at the starting point and “ride yer damn bike.”
This year’s ride took place over the weekend and attracted 25 participants.
The race is welcoming to all riders, whether they want to travel at a comfortable pace and stop to sleep or if they want to go all out and set a new course record. Those who want to stop for a few minutes every once in a while and sightsee as they pass many important sites such as Valley Forge are also encouraged to participate.
“It’s a beautiful way to see the state,” said Rachel Weaver, an avid cyclist from Pittsburgh. “It’s stunning.”
