Haverford College has found its new Dean of the College in John F. McKnight, Jr., writes Hannah Amendola for the Haverford Clerk.

McKnight will replace Dean Joyce Bylander, who was hired on a temporary basis as the search for a permanent dean was implemented. He was selected by a search committee consisting of students, staff, and faculty, which had been interviewing potential candidates for the position throughout the 2020–21 academic year.

Haverford President Wendy Raymond said she was “delighted to announce that John F. McKnight, Jr. will be Haverford’s next Dean of the College,” who she praised for his “deep passion for the liberal arts, [his] holistic support of undergraduates, and for building equity and inclusion across academics, student life, and communities.”

The new dean comes from Connecticut College, where he has served as the Dean of Institutional Equity and Inclusion for the past five years. He will officially assume his new position at Haverford on July 1, 2021.

However, Raymond said that the school administration, including her and Bylander, will start working with McKnight immediately to ensure the smooth transition.
