Villanova head coach Jay Wright and WNBA’s Indiana Fever head coach Marianne (Crawford) Stanley, who hails from Archbishop Prendergast, are both candidates for the  Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, writes Terry Toohey for the Daily Times.

Wright is in his 20th season at Villanova and 27th overall as a head coach.

He has been named twice as Naismith National Coach of the Year in 2006 and 2010.

He’s also the first coach in NCAA history to lead four straight 30-win seasons.

He’s won two national champions and has taken his team to three Final Fours, four Elite Eights and four Sweet 16s.

“It’s truly humbling to be considered as a candidate by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame committee,” Wright said “To have your name mentioned with these incredible basketball icons is an honor.”

Marianne Crawford Stanley is head coach of the Indiana Fever of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA)

At Immaculata, Marianne Stanley played for four AIAW national championship teams, winning titles in 1973 and 1974. She finished second in 1975 and 1976.

She played in the first nationally televised women’s game and the first women’s game at Madison Square Garden. Her coaching career covers 40 years on the collegiate and professional levels.
