The report measures cities and regions in the United States on four main factors, including funding for life sciences, patents awarded, lab space, and life sciences jobs.

“The City of Brotherly Love and its suburbs emphasize their concentration of companies and institutions focused on cell and gene therapy, with good reason,” states the publication.

In 2020, the area was home to 36 cell and gene therapy companies along with pioneering researchers and a field workforce of approximately 4,900 that could increase by up to 11,274 over the next ten years.

The analysis also stated that the constant growth of the sector in the region explains why it now has over 1 million square feet of new lab space under construction.

Projects cited in the report include The Discovery Labs in Upper Merion, the Spring House Innovation Park in Lower Gwynedd Township, and in Bucks County, the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Center of Bucks County.
