Wawa and Sheetz Set Aside Differences to Take the Plunge

By

The Wawa/Sheetz rivalry is well-known in these parts, and Montgomery County is solidly in Wawa’s court (coffee and a Shorti, anyone?). Fitting, since the popular convenience store started locally.

So what’s all this about a truce for a good cause?

Well, it’s true. On Wednesday, the leadership of both chains announced they were taking the ‘Plunge’ Together, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Wawa CEO Chris Gheysens and Sheetz CEO Joe Sheetz have joined “in a show of unification” to take Special Olympic Pennsylvania’s virtual Polar Pop challenge this month.

The virtual version lets you make donations and fundraise by going to PAPolarPop.org.

Supporters film themselves popping a water-filled balloon over their head and share the footage at #FreezinForAReason.

Participants are then asked to challenge five of their friends to do the same.

Gheysens, Sheetz, and several employees have already taken the challenge and are asking their customers to join in.

Both CEOs are pledging $5,000 to Special Olympics Pennsylvania.

“They usually participate in our Polar Plunge separately, but for them to use their rivalry as a fun way to bring awareness to the event is amazing!” said Matt Aaron, CEO and president of Special Olympics Pennsylvania.
