As part of its ninth annual Caring for Community Giveaway on January 6, Souderton-based Univest Financial has awarded $5,000 to Temple University’s chapter of A Moment of Magic, the nonprofit that brings fairytale magic to children in hospitals, writes Rosie Leonard for The Temple News.

The organization usually sends volunteers dressed as various fictional characters to visit children who are medically vulnerable but has been forced to shift its efforts online due to the ongoing pandemic.

But even though this year’s winner is currently operating virtually, its volunteers are still singing Disney songs and reading stories to children who are isolated from both their friends and families while undergoing treatment at Pennsylvania’s hospitals, such as St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

The organization will use the grant money to improve its virtual programming.

Each year Univest, a financial service provider, awards $5,000 to a nonprofit organization that helps the community within Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

People nominate organizations throughout December following which Univest selects a winner at random, according to Nicole Heverly, vice president and director of Corporate Communications at Univest.

This December, 125 nominations were nominated.
