St. Charles Borromeo Seminary Leaving Its Longtime Home in Wynnewood, Moving To Gwynedd Mercy
St. Charles Borromeo Seminary is leaving its longtime Wynnewood home and relocating its programs to Gwynedd Mercy University campus in Lower Gwynedd Township, writes Matthew Gambino for the Catholic Philly.
The move was announced in a letter of intent signed by Timothy Senior, seminary rector, and Deanne D’Emilio, university president, and sent to the clergy of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia on December 9.
The letter calls for the relocation of the seminary from the property that was sold to Main Line Health last year for $43.5 million to a 15-acre tract on the north side of the university’s campus.
At the time of the sale, the seminary was given five years to relocate its programs.
The property where the seminary is moving to is home to two university buildings which are currently used for residential housing and campus ministry functions. Those functions will be transferred to other campus buildings.
D’Emilio and Bishop Senior said they were “excited about the potential long-term benefits for our students and the community by having two respected Catholic institutions work and live in proximity to each other.”
