Another cherished tradition is being put on hold this year due to the pandemic as the Pennsylvania Farm Show has decided not to feature its annual butter sculpture created by two Conshohocken sculptors, Jim Victor and Marie Pelton, writes Hannah Kanik for the Philly Voice.

The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has said that due to the surge in COVID-19 cases statewide, it could not risk bringing the two artists to Harrisburg to create the popular sculpture for the event that will take place virtually in January.

“While we are heartbroken to have to cancel popular features of our annual Farm Show,” said Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding, “we simply cannot afford to compromise the health and safety of our staff, the sculptors who would have to travel to Harrisburg, and those involved in recording and broadcasting virtual events.”

Previously, the Department planned to feature the artists butter sculpture on one of the feeds during the virtual event, but that has now been changed.

Other virtual events have also been canceled, including cooking demonstrations and tractor pulls.
