Montgomery County Commissioners recently approved around $180,000 for a revised contract amendment with PA CareerLink in Norristown’s Human Services Center despite repeated protests from Commissioner Joe Gale, writes Rachel Ravina for the Montgomery Media.

The amendment passed during the October 29 commissioners’ meeting with a 2-1 vote. The $186,670 agreement between the Montgomery County Assets and Infrastructure Department and Lansdowne’s S J Thomas Company is for “additional electrical and plumbing work.”

“I’ll be opposing this contract amendment, and I’ve been opposing the expenses related to the renovations at the Human Services Center related to the CareerLink,” said Gale.

The commissioner previously approved the resolution for a $403,407 agreement in June last year for “construction services” associated with moving PA CareerLink’s Montgomery County facility to the county’s Human Services Center from its original New Hope Street location.

The amendment to the contract was approved after Norristown’s Department of Building and Code Enforcement cited a need for the facility to meet the municipality’s “code requirements.”

The amendment accounts for several more items, such as new light fixtures and work on an additional fire alarm.
