Sarah and Neil Greenstein have transformed the Tudor residence they bought three years ago into a modern family home for themselves and their three children, writes Sally A. Downey for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

When they decided to purchase the house, the couple knew it needed quite a bit of work.

“The house had good bones,” said Neil, “and Sarah likes a challenge.”

His wife had already refurbished two Lower Merion homes and both ended up selling well.

This home gives the family enough space for their daughter and two sons to each have their own room. It also has a bonus guest room and bath for visiting grandparents.

The pair – both of whom work from home for Johnson & Johnson – also have dedicated work spaces.

And to improve on the small galley kitchen, the couple combined it with the breakfast room. They then adjusted the attached two-car garage to create a mudroom and a smaller, one-car garage.

The family has also made sure to preserve many of the original features of the 1920 house, such as multi-paned windows and the wrought iron staircase railing.
