PREIT is proposing to develop an 11-story, 503-unit apartment building at Plymouth Meeting Mall, writes Kevin Tierney for the More Than The Curve.

According to a Facebook post by Plymouth Township Councilmember Chris Manero, PREIT previously presented plans to develop the building on a parcel at Plymouth Mall for about 400 apartments during a workshop meeting.

However many residents have opposed these plans, citing traffic and several other concerns.

“PREIT is now seeking another approach, bypassing our township council and going directly to the Zoning Hearing Board to seek a Special Exception in the Shopping Center District,” wrote Manero.

The mall falls within the Shopping Center Zoning District, which usually does not permit residential uses. However obtaining a special Zoning Hearing Board exception would give PREIT permission to use the property in a way that would otherwise be in conflict with the standing restrictions of the zoning district.

“If 11 stories and over 500 units sounds concerning to you, you may want to consider attending the October Zoning Hearing Board meeting- via Zoom on October 19 at 7 pm,” wrote Manero.
