Harriet Carter Gifts has sold the building in Montgomeryville that housed its office, showroom, and distribution center for $8.5 million, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The 171,646-square-foot structure was acquired by Catalyst Commercial Development, which plans to eventually use the space.

The company also sold its Bucks County building in a separate transaction.

In February last year, the seller of As Seen On TV items such as the Lint Lizard, Huggle, and Dust Daddy, said it was closing its operations in both Montgomery and Bucks counties and was laying off 202 employees from the two facilities. The closures went into effect in March 2019.

At the time, Fresh Finds and Wise and Well, the companies affiliated entities, were also closed.

Harriet Carter Gifts was founded in Plymouth Meeting more than six decades ago. The company’s first product was a decorative wood switch-plate cover that “we hand cut and stained down in our basement,” according to its website.

Over the years, the company has branched out to selling hundreds of novelty items and expanded its footprint well beyond its original basement premises.

The company is now based in Cleveland.
