In an effort to keep the coronavirus off its campus, Ursinus College in Collegeville has adopted one of the most aggressive testing policies in the region, writes Susan Snyder for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The small liberal arts school is testing all its students for the virus every week. Meanwhile, faculty and staff who spend at least four hours a week on campus are getting tested every other week.

“We can’t guarantee that things will always stay under control,” said Mark Schneider, dean of the college. “But what we can guarantee is, with our weekly testing, we will always know the health situation on the campus.”

To keep most of its instruction face-to-face, the school has implemented numerous other safety measures. For outside classes, Ursinus has erected eight tents with mounted fans.

The school has also identified large spaces, such as the wrestling room and art museum, to hold classes with proper social distance.

The safety measures are costing the school around $1 million. To be able to afford them, top administrators have taken a pay cut, alongside many other measures.
