According to Mark Schneider, Ursinus vice president for academic affairs and dean, the liberal arts college is even considering delaying the next semester for a few months.

At Ursinus, all freshmen take a common course that is then discussed between them in classrooms and residence halls to foster a closer living experience.

“To not have that kind of cohort-building would provide a serious challenge, one we simply will meet,” said Schneider.

Another issue the college has been grappling with is the need for more financial aid as a lot of students families have been hit hard by coronavirus at a time when philanthropic giving and endowment returns have significantly fallen.

“We’ve already had families come to us and say, ‘I lost my job, my spouse lost their job,’ ” and seek more aid, said Annette Parker, vice president for finance and administration at Ursinus.
