Dr. Ross Steven Brinkert, a beloved and respected associate professor of corporate communication at Penn State Abington, died on August 20 at his home from brain cancer. He was 49, writes Bonnie L. Cook for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Brinkert, a Glenside resident, had taught at the Abington campus for the past 15 years.

“He was the archetype of grace, integrity, courage, kindness, humility, and humanity,” said Salar Ghahramani, associate professor of business law and international law and policy at Abington. “Simply put, Ross leaves a legacy of beauty, having positively touched so many lives across generations and backgrounds.”

Brinkert was diagnosed with brain cancer 13 months ago but still continued teaching until early August.

During his time at Abington, he helped launch the corporate communication major, for which he was the first full-time faculty member. He was also selected by his colleagues to serve as the faculty ombudsperson on campus.

In addition, Ross Steven Brinkert was a member of the National Communication Association’s training and development division and was honored with the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award by the group. The association also named the division’s Rising Star Award after him.
