Now that Montgomery County is fully steeped in fall, several local craft breweries are now offering their takes on pumpkin beer. Grace Dickinson, in The Philadelphia Inquirer, covered two local providers who have gotten “on gourd” with the seasonal beverage.

Wissahickon Brewing Company’s Ember was named to evoke images of a fall campfire. The spice-forward ale brings warmth when temperatures start to drop.

The brew is made with a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and ginger, all of which are added to the boil during the brew. Before the ale is kegged, more cinnamon and Madagascar vanilla beans are added.

Ember is available through November. It can be tried at the brewery’s tasting room or picked up curbside. Order delivery is also available.

Meanwhile, Iron Hill Brewery’s Pumpkin Ale incorporates all of the classic ingredients of a pumpkin beer, including pumpkin puree, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. It offers the classic pie flavor but less sweet and spicier. Madagascar vanilla beans are added at the end of the brewing process.

It is available through October and can be tried on draft and in cans at all Iron Hill locations.
