Plymouth Meeting-based Protecs Innovation Centers is planning to develop a new 74,000-square-foot building in King of Prussia, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The company that converts offices into spaces for life science and tech firms will connect the new structure to its existing building in Upper Merion.

The space will initially be marketed as a built-to-suit. However, Protecs president and founder Christopher DiPaolo is confident that if a big tenant does not appear, he will be able to lease the space to multiple tenants.

“We are seeing so much activity,” he said. “Throughout COVID, I’ve been busier with this than my other work.”

DiPaolo’s main business is a design and construction management firm focusing on pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, and other high-tech companies. He founded Protecs eight years ago as a side business following the purchase of a building in Plymouth Meeting that once housed the now-defunct Genaera.

He then renovated the space and began leasing it to early-stage life sciences and other technology-related firms. He has since acquired two more properties, growing his space to 120,000 square feet, most of it leased.
