North Penn High School marching band will not lose out this season, but their experience will be significantly different than what the members are used to, writes Marcus Espinoza for FOX 29.
“Our number one priority was to make sure that the kids would be safe and create an environment where we could successfully have marching band,” said North Penn High School band director Joe Santanello. “We really thought it was important to give the kids a chance to have this opportunity.”
The band will most likely not get the chance to play during any games, as the Lansdale school’s football stadium is currently under construction. This will make all the games of the football team away games, and with the pandemic and related restrictions, the marching band is unlikely to be able to travel with them.
Still, the team will get a chance to compete in large competitions this season.
“Actually doing virtual competitions so the bands are able to record their performances at their home stadium and then submit them online to be judged virtually,” said Santanello.
