Ed Harris, the longtime Valley Forge Convention & Tourism Board marketing chief, is stepping down to take the role of president and CEO of Discover Lancaster, writes Ryan Sharrow for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Discover Lancaster is Lancaster County’s official destination marketing organization. According to the organization, around 8.85 million people visited Lancaster County in 2018 and directly spent $2.24 billion.

Harris joined the VFCTB as chief marketing officer six years ago. During his time with the organization, he oversaw branded experiences, seasonal advertising campaigns, digital marketing, printed publications, and membership events.

Prior to that, he held brand management roles at Nike, eBay, Under Armour, and Timberland.

He joins Discovery Lancaster at a time when tourist organizations nationwide are coming up with strategies to bring back visitors following the near-complete halt within the industry caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

His expertise “will enable him to hit the ground running to aggressively market our destination, driving demand that will fuel Lancaster’s tourism recovery,” said Discover Lancaster board chair Rebecca Gallagher.
