Montgomery County COVID-19 Thursday Update – April 23rd
Based on the information found on state and county’s COVID-19 website and the Commissioner’s Wednesday 3:00 PM press conference, here is a snapshot of the spread of coronavirus across Montgomery County, the Delaware Valley and Pennsylvania.
As of 10:00 AM Wednesday morning, Montgomery County reported 106 new COVID-19, up from the 69 new cases reported Tuesday.
The 106 new cases, 53 of which were males, came from 38 municipalities and range in age from 9-months to 100 years-old and fall in the following age brackets:
- 0 to 9 – 2
- 10 to 19 – 8
- 20 to 29 – 5
- 30 to 39 – 19
- 40 to 49 – 14
- 50 to 59 – 24
- 60 to 69 – 13
- 70 to 79 – 17
- 80 to 89 -8
- 90 to 99 – 5
- 100 to 109 – 1
The 106 new positive cases brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 3,093 countywide.
Of those 3,093 confirmed cases, 1,417 are male, 1,646 are female.
The average age of individuals with COVID-19 across the county is 55.5 years-old with the youngest patient being a 1-month-old baby and a 110 year-old Abington man, the oldest.
Sixtyone of the county’s 62 municipalities are home to at least one individual with a positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
Of those 61 municipalities, only one, Bryn Athyn Borough in the county’s southeast corner, reports zero COVID-19 cases.
Four of the County’s 62 municipalities – Lower Merion (299), Cheltenham (245), Springfield (239), and Abington (232), account for 1,015 (34%) of the positive cases countywide.

The County continues to monitor the 75 Department of Health certified long-term care centers and approximately 550 congregant care facilities across Montgomery County for instances of COVID-19.
Of the 1,173 cases reported at these centers through Wednesday morning, 790 were residents and the balance, 383 cases, were of staff members of the care facility.
As of Wednesday, 85 of those facilities, up from 83 on Tuesday have residents or staff with COVID-19.
Two new coronavirus related death of individuals ranging in age from 61 to 75 years-old were reported in Montgomery County on Wednesday.
Wednesday’s deaths move the county’s COVID-19 death toll to 174, 101 of which were residents or staff of long-term or congregate care facilities in the county.
Ninety three (53.4%) of Montgomery County’s 172 COVID-19 deaths are in five municipalities; Springfield Township (35), Upper Gwynedd Township (20), Upper Providence (13), Abington (15), and Lower Gwynedd (10).
The county’s COVID-19 death toll of 174 is 10.7% of the 1,622 deaths attributed to the coronavirus statewide.
The County’s 3,093 COVID-19 cases represent 8.7-percent of the 35,684 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases across Pennsylvania.
By comparison, as of noon Wednesday when the state updated their coronavirus count, with the exception of Philadelphia County with 9,696 COVID-19 positive cases and 365 deaths, neighboring and surrounding counties all report fewer positive coronavirus cases and deaths than Montgomery County’s tally:
