Lansdale’s Liberty Bell Trail has been honored by the American Society of Highway Engineers as the Delaware Valley 2019 Project of the Year in the under $10 million category, writes Justin Heinze for the Patch.

The society recognized the project for its complexity, significance to the area economy, and long term master plan.

“This project met and exceeded the Borough’s goals and objectives,” said John Ernst, Lansdale’s borough manager. “From start to finish, this project was a true collaboration between all parties and I applaud the entire project team for their efforts in not only making this project a success but also for their continued commitment to the future of Lansdale.”

The ten-foot-wide, multi-use trial runs through the heart of downtown Lansdale. It will increase walkability and recreation access and serve as a boon for the local economy.

To complete the project, Lansdale and Montgomery County worked closely with SEPTA, Pennoni, PennDOT, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, and the Pennsylvania Northeastern Railroad. Engineering firm Pennoni also assisted on the project.

Some of the features that were recognized by the engineers’ society include the prefabricated bridge and its carefully planned at-grade rail crossings.
