Qlik, a software company based in King of Prussia that helps businesses accelerate their value through data, is shaping the next generation of IT professionals through an internship program that fosters the development of students and enables them to flourish.
Toi Do, a senior at Temple University who is studying Information Science and Technology, is interning at Qlik as an IT Administrator. His journey began through a recruiter.
At first, he only aimed to gain experience that would make his resume look good. However, as he progressed through the internship, he realized he wanted more than just an experience for his resume.
Through his internship, he’s identified his weaknesses and sees where he needs to improve.
“I feel much more confident in myself now than I did before,” he said. “I do have one goal, and that is to guide the next generation to aim farther than I did.”
Another IT Administrator intern, Steven Wiley-Curtis, a junior at Saint Joseph’s University who is studying Business Intelligence & Analytics, cherishes the time he spends at Qlik.
He particularly appreciates how he’s gained experience at one of the top Business Intelligence software companies.
“I knew that having this opportunity would teach me how to work in a corporate environment,” he said.
He began his Qlik tenure with a three-month internship. He was asked if he wanted to stay on during the school year to help, so his contract was renewed.
A typical day for Wiley-Curtis includes troubleshooting computers or infrastructure-based equipment. He also assists employees in any issues they may have, either in person or remotely.
“I am gaining knowledge about using the software that Qlik has to offer, as well as knowing the hardware and the processes behind them,” he said.
After college, Wiley-Curtis would like to become a business analyst in the field of IT security.
“The best thing this internship has helped me with is achieving my goals and providing me with many opportunities to network,” he said.
