Planning Your MONTCO Martin Luther King Weekend

The January 17 – 20 weekend honors the birth date of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It’s a welcome mid-month pause that can be enjoyed throughout Montgomery County.

But as a Day of Service, it should be much more than just that. So as you’re planning your long weekend with a volunteer project, be sure to stay at one of our 80 hotels and check out local attractions and dining.

We know how hard it is to plan a full weekend, so we did the work for you! Below are possible itineraries for you during your stay in Montco throughout Martin Luther King Weekend.


Brunch – Founding Farmers, King of Prussia

Kick off the weekend with a delicious brunch at Founding Farmers. As the most booked restaurant in the United States on Open Table, Founding Farmers is majority-owned by 47,000 family farmers from across the country.

Day Activity – LEGOLAND®, Plymouth Meeting

After brunch, take a short drive to LEGOLAND® Discovery Center. Night – El Sarape, Blue Bell

Head to El Sarape for dinner. Rooted in tradition, their dishes are created from homemade recipes and prepared fresh daily on the premises, using only the finest ingredients.

Brunch – Gypsy Blu, Ambler

Day Activity – Happy Place, King of Prussia

Night – Tannery Run Brew Works, Ambler

Tannery Run Brew Works is an independently owned craft brewpub located in Ambler. Try one of there  signature “Splatch” brewed beers alongside a rotating menu including vegetarian, vegan, and kid-friendly options. Don’t forgot to download the Montco Makers app and complete your first check in!

Day Activity – Valley Forge National Park, Valley Forge

Morning – Duck Donuts, King of Prussia

Day Activity – Elmwood Park Zoo, Norristown

Join the Elmwood Park Zoo from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Monday, January 20th as they partner with Montgomery County SPCA to celebrate Martin Luther King Day with a day of service. Guests can join staff members and volunteers in making toys for some of the zoo’s animals, as well as for the dogs at the SPCA.

A therapy dog from the SPCA will be at the zoo to join the fun…and perhaps test some of the handmade toys! The zoo will provide old t-shirts for the toys, but guests are also encouraged to bring their own.

Zoo admission will be discounted to $5.00 for the entire day. A portion of the day’s proceeds will be donated to the Montgomery County SPCA.
