Philadelphia among Major Metros with Longer Commute Times

By

Philadelphia commuters average 51 minutes per trip on their way to and from work, according to the 2019 Global Public Transport Report recently released by mobility-as-a-service solutions company Moovit, writes Eileen Cukier for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The report looked at commute times in cities within the U.S. and world-wide.

It found that in North America, the shortest commute times are travelers in Pittsburg, with an average of 38 minutes per trip.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles and Miami are tied for the longest commute times with an average of 56 minutes each way.

And while Philadelphia may have a high average commute time, a significant percentage of local travelers have a relatively short trip.

About 31.55 percent of local commuters spend 30 minutes or less traveling. Meanwhile, 5.6 percent of people had a two-hour commute each way, which is significantly lower than the Miami figure of 12 percent.

Among residents in major metros, Philadelphians were the least likely to use forms of micro-mobility, such as bikes and scooters.

Around 82 percent of commuters said they never used those options to get around despite their increasing availability.
