State Rep. Marcy Toepel, who currently serves in the leadership as majority chairman of the House Republican Caucus, will not seek reelection and will retire at the end of her current legislative term on November 30, 2020.

“My time in the General Assembly has been a truly rewarding experience and I give my heartfelt thanks to the residents of the 147th District for their support in allowing me to serve,” said Toepel. “It has been both an awesome and humbling experience.”

Toepel, a state House member since 2010, is the first woman from Montgomery County to serve in a leadership position in the House. She was elected to the position in November 2016 by her colleagues.

During her tenure, Toepel held the line on taxes, supported efforts that have resulted in a 39 percent increase in K-12 education spending over the last decade, and spearheading a number of notable legislative accomplishments.

These included the Brad Fox Law, which restored a five-year minimum sentence for those convicted of making repeat straw purchases of firearms, and preserving open space such as helping save Stone Leigh in Montgomery County from eminent domain.
