On Giving Tuesday, Manor College Will Focus on Combating Food Insecurity

By

Jenkintown-based Manor College focused on food insecurity for its charity drive on Giving Tuesday in December 2019.

For this year’s Giving Tuesday, Manor College will focus on combating food insecurity. The Jenkintown-based educational institution will address the issue both externally, by creating meals with Rise Against Hunger, and internally, by enhancing its food pantry, Bird Feed.

Giving Tuesday occurs each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, in this case, December 3. It is a global day of philanthropy that aims to kick off the charitable holiday season.

All funds donated to Manor College this Giving Tuesday will go toward Bird Feed. This will allow the college to expand its offerings through renovations and equipment upgrades, including a refrigerator, food accessibility tools, and a community garden.

Food donations are being encouraged, with the goal of offering a minimum of 300 meals over the holiday season.

Manor College has also partnered with WSFS bank to package 10,000 meals in two hours with Rise Against Hunger. The international relief organization is dedicated to mitigating hunger by delivering food and aid to the most vulnerable populations in the world.

“Manor College chose to partner with Rise Against Hunger because we both want to accomplish the same goals when it comes to ending hunger in our communities,” said Director of Student Engagement Ashley Hillegas.
