Adam Levin, a Wissahickon High School graduate, had a heartbreaking loss during his short stint on Jeopardy! when he went up against James Holzhauer during his amazing run and finished second by only $18, writes Matt Vautour for the Mass Live.

Levin was one of the rare competitors who gave the dominant champion a proper challenge. On the show that aired in April, Levin finished second with $53,999, just $18 shy of Holzhauer’s winning amount. That is the highest amount that any non-winner has achieved and the 21st highest total of all time.

Sadly for Levin, he still walked away with only $2,000, as the rules of the game show dictate that second place always receives this amount.

Still, the bout of bad luck that pitted Levin against one of the best contestants of all time in the game has not soured the Ashland man on the show.

“Of course, I think if I had been on there any other time I think I could have done well,” he said. “But that’s the way it goes. James had to play somebody.”
