United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey (UWGPSNJ) has named Jill L. Duncan controller, overseeing all day-to-day financial operations and lead United Way’s finance team.

She joined the leadership team officially in July.

Duncan brings 20 years of nonprofit expertise.

“Joining United Way’s team was a natural step for me and allows me to combine my passion for the nonprofit sector and my leadership abilities to help support a fantastic organization while simultaneously driving change and improving my community,” Duncan said.

“I’m excited at the opportunity to join such a passionate, driven team and leverage my experience to further the work to fight poverty in our region.”

Duncan has a demonstrated track record of leading various teams in crucial financial management functions, and implanting strategic financial best practices.

Most recently, she was director of finance at Elywn, where she provided oversight on the organization’s fiscal functions and performance.

Prior to her role with Elwyn, Duncan was on the finance teams for Philabundance and the Center for Advocacy for the Rights & Interest of the Elderly.

“Jill is goal-oriented and a talented leader who not only understands the heart of what we’re trying to do here at United Way but possesses the spirit and grit needed to help us get there,” said Bill Golderer, president and CEO of UWGPSNJ

Duncan’s expertise will be essential in translating complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance managers.

She will ensure efficient and productive financial practices while upholding transparency  in reporting and understanding the operating performance and financial position of United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey.

Her new role will be critical as the organization continues to fight poverty by harnessing, leveraging and strategically investing the collective power of donors, advocates and volunteers.
